Charlton Athletic Courses

The Community Programme at Charlton Athletic Football Club was established in 1992 as ‘Charlton Athletic Football in the Community Scheme’, a partnership between Charlton Athletic Football Club and the Professional Footballers Association. In 2003 it became a registered charity trading as ‘Charlton Athletic Community Trust’ and has been expanding and rooting itself firmly in the local community ever since. The Trust is now one of the biggest and most successful football related charities in the UK, delivering programmes within the London boroughs of Greenwich, Bexley and Bromley and several districts in Kent.

A key aim of the Trust is to provide opportunities for disadvantaged or disengaged populations to access positive activities that are beneficial to the individual and the wider community. Using football and other sports as a non-traditional method of engagement provides an environment where historically hard to reach individuals can be positively affected.

The types of programmes delivered by the Trust fit under five key aims: raising educational achievement; creating pathways to employment; building healthier lifestyles; bringing communities together and reducing crime.
