Peterborough United Sports Scholarship Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport at Nene Park Academy Course description The Peterborough United Sports Scholarship combines football and futsal along with a BTEC Level 3 in Sport. Unique to this course, the fixtures will be played against both Premier League and Football League clubs with similar programmes and fixtures will be held at fantastic venues such as first team training grounds, St George’s Park and the Birmingham International Futsal Arena. This is a great course for anyone with a passion for Football who wants to challenge themselves in a new environment. You will gain a highly recognised qualification in Sport which you can use towards application for University or trying to enter the working world of Sport. The course also gives the opportunity to attain coaching qualifications and/or awards in Football and Futsal providing you with a unique qualification to further enhance your knowledge and understanding of Football and Futsal. In addition you can gain the NCS: National Citizenship Service award, which is a government recognised qualification. This will also support your application for university and help to make your CV stand out. Course content Pupils will study an Edexcel BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport which builds on students’ experience from Key Stage 4 and GCSE, enhancing knowledge and increasing understanding of the factors that affect performance and participation in sport. This qualification gives students the opportunity to develop their understanding of the world of sport looking at units of Fitness Training and Testing, anatomy and physiology along with many other areas of the world of sport. Alternatively, those who have the entry requirements can choose to study 3 A Levels instead of the BTEC, or one A Level in addition to it. Availability of this will be discussed on an individual basis. As part of the programme you will represent Peterborough United in both the EFL South East Division and the EFL Midlands National League in which you will compete against teams such as Chelsea, Cardiff, Southampton, Norwich amongst others. Both sets of fixtures are played in many fantastic venues and arenas such first team training grounds, St Georges Park and the Birmingham International Futsal Arena. The past couple of seasons have been very successful for both the boys and girls teams having won multiple National Leagues and Division titles. Boys football fixtures are played on Wednesdays, playing each team twice both home and away across the season whilst the futsal fixtures for the boys will mainly be played at St George’s Park. The girls play their fixtures on Thursdays at The Birmingham International Futsal Arena. Your timetable includes football training, futsal training, gym sessions and HUDL match analysis sessions alongside your BTEC lessons. In addition to these regular sessions, both boys and girls have team bonding sessions throughout the season, such as attending first team fixtures, stadium tours, footgolf and trips to theme parks. Entry requirements Standard: Five GCSE subjects at a minimum grade 4 or the equivalent including Maths and English Assessment Assessment will be an end of course externally assessed examination and an externally assessed unit of coursework. Future opportunities A positive result in your studies can lead to University study, USA Sporting scholarships, apprenticeships and sports related employment. Within the Futsal community, the International Futsal Academy offer a relevant follow-on course and some of our players have been successful in gaining a place. Entry is by Meeting with a member of the sixth from team, and you will receive notification of this, but also you will need to attend a trial to assess your suitability for the practical part of the course. Posh offer both a boys and girls only education programme which runs alongside the Football League and the Football League trust. The Sports Scholarship is not only a chance to play Football and Futsal every day, but gain valuable education qualifications delivered by Nene Park Academy. Players will be working towards a BTEC in sport, with personal training courses and NCS programmes also offered. You could come out of the programme with the equivalent of four A-levels, therefore if you wanted to progress onto University this would give you a high level of UCAS points to stand you in good stead. The programme is for those who are in the under 16’s/Under 17’s age bracket. Training every day and the competitive nature of your fixtures will help develop your performance with your grass roots team. By signing up with the programme, we also offer the opportunity to play in the best facilities. Home football fixtures are played at the first team’s training ground, whilst St George’s Park and the Birmingham International Futsal Arena are the boys and girls regular futsal match day venues. Added to this, the Sports Scholarship plays a number of high-quality Premier League and Football League opponents, such as teams from Chelsea FC, Southampton FC, Crystal Palace, Norwich and many more. While being a part of the club, players will also be able to gain access to certain Posh fixtures, attend the stadium ground tour and meet some of the first team players!
